Gasoline-powered vehicles have been the predominant mode of transportation globally since

the Industrial Revolution. Despite its ecological impacts, gasoline remains the prevailing

automobile fuel today for cars, motorcycles, boats, and even lawnmowers. As the battle

against soaring carbon emissions and escalating oil prices continues, cutting-edge

alternatives are emerging, aiming to replace conventional methods and promote a more

environmentally conscious mode of transportation. Offering reduced emissions by around

50-70%, electric vehicles (EV) stands out as a driving force that is changing the game,

leading the race towards a green future in the transportation sector.

Joining Indonesia’s burgeoning EV landscape which also synergizes with the group’s

Towards A Better Society 2030 (TBS2030) agenda of achieving carbon neutrality, TBS

Energi Utama celebrates the launch of Electrum H5, a high-performance electric motorcycle

fully tailored to suit Indonesian roads. Making its first appearance at a media gathering on 9

November 2023, Electrum H5 became the first EV product launched by Electrum, a joint

venture company established in 2021 by TBS Energi Utama and GoTo.

Proudly crafted by local designers and engineers, Electrum H5 is built based on one

question: “What would be perfect for Indonesians?” It results in a two-wheeler EV that

guarantees the highest comfort, featuring a charging port, spacious storage, and a sleek

blend of futuristic green, blue, and metallic colors. Inside, a dual-battery system ensures a

long-lasting journey of up to 120 km. For added convenience, each vehicle connects to an

application called Electrum Mobile APP (ELMA) where drivers can obtain information on the

H5 bike's status, how to top up battery capacity, and locate nearby Battery Swap Stations

(BSS).

The Electrum H5 will start roaming Jakarta’s streets this year as part of the GoRide Electric

service’s trial. Initially available only in South Jakarta, a total of 500 H5 units will be gradually

added as the trial expands until the end of the year. For GoTo’s Head of Sustainability, Tanah

Sullivan, electrum is an opportunity for the platform to reach a wider customer base by giving

a “convenient, affordable, and eco-friendly mobility option."

A research examining Indonesia’s electric vehicle usage throughout 2020 to 2022 revealed a

significant increase, indicating remarkable growth reaching 264% within a span of just two

years. Reflecting on past numbers, Nafi Achmad, TBS’ SVP of Corporate Strategy &

Investor Relations projects a highly positive trajectory within the EV industry along with the

launch of Electrum H5. “We expect this launch to bolster Electrum’s impact in Indonesia’s

two-wheeler market, contributing to our nation’s strategic national agenda of transitioning the

dominant mode of transport from conventional to electric two-wheeler vehicles,” he stated.

While promoting the adoption of two-wheeler EVs remains the primary objective, building the

ecosystem is an equally vital to-do list. Since the beginning, Electrum has been working to

establish a solid infrastructure to support its products. This includes a new factory in

Cikarang, expanding Battery Swap Stations (BSS), digital infrastructures, and after-sales

services. Presently, 40 BSS have been rolled out all over Jakarta, with plans to exceed 100

by year-end and 1.000 by the end of 2024.

Nafi further emphasized, “This achievement is not only a significant milestone for TBS in

driving responsible energy transition but also a tangible proof of our commitment to

implementing innovative solutions to reduce our carbon footprint while adding value to

society and the environment.” The launch underscores TBS’ innovative approach to

achieving TBS2030 and supports Indonesia’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2060. With full

participation and support towards the electric vehicle business, TBS fosters a sustainable

transportation ecosystem within Indonesia, one electric two-wheeler at a time.
